OTL's Involvement in Red Hawk Spar Decommissioning Acknowledged in Offshore Magazine Webcast

On Thursday, August 26 Offshore Magazine hosted a webcast about the decommissioning of the Red Hawk Spar, only the second such project in the world. The Red Hawk Spar has been notable since its inception, as it remains the only cell spar in the world. Currently, it is the first decommissioned floating production unit in the Gulf of Mexico. OTL is proud to have contributed "specialized engineering support" towards this project, as acknowledged by Anadarko Facilities Engineer and Project Manager Ryan Kavanagh during the online session.

Headed by Chief Naval Architect Dr. Alex Ran, OTL played a critical role in providing naval architecture engineering of stability, ballasting, and dynamic analysis in the decommissioning process of topside removal, vertical tow, and the final reefing of the spar hull. With the physical decommissioning process completed in August of 2014, the spar now provides a cave-like home for an active marine life community on the Gulf of Mexico seafloor.

With this experience, OTL is looking forward to more decommissioning projects in the future.
