Message from the CEO

When I was a young man at Shanghai Jiaotong University, one of my dreams was to see the sun rise upon the sea from the top of Mount Tai. I seized my chance during a journey from Shanghai to Beijing, with the mountain as a stop in between. Jade Emperor Peak is 1,532.7 meters (5,029 feet) above sea level.

Most people climb the mountain and enjoy the scenery over two days. But with my train arriving at 2 AM and sunrise at approximately 5 AM, I had only three hours to accomplish my goal.

Hiking alone at night is a daunting task. This is before cell phones and GPS. I contended not only with dark passages, but also the possibility of getting lost and encountering wild animals. And I had to endure the night altitude chill without proper climbing attire. At the midway point I realized that I had only thirty minutes left to sunrise. Refusing to fail, I gathered my last strength and ran up the remaining 3,500 steps to Jade Emperor peak. In the end I wasn't able to see the sun upon the sea, due to the cloudy morning.

But my victory was sweet nonetheless, as I was able to triumph over the obstacles of time, darkness, and the limitations of my own body. This lesson was more valuable to me than any sunrise or mountain view.

That same determination and strength has stayed with me through all the years since that dawn upon Mount Tai. It is a quality I look for in everyone who joins this company as well.

Here, we climb mountains everyday.
